Energy Code

Applies to new buildings, additions and alterations

The 2024 Minnesota Commercial Energy Code includes the ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1- 2019 as amended by the State of Minnesota. The purpose of this code is to establish minimum energy efficiency requirements of buildings other than low-rise residential buildings for a) design, construction, and a plan for operation and maintenance: and b) utilization of on-site, renewable energy resources.

Key information required with building permit submittal

  • Compliance path (chosen by designer) and any applicable exceptions.
  • Code required documentation to support compliance path.
  • If testing is required, identify the verification and testing (V&T) provider.
  • If applicable, identify commissioning agent and provide a commissioning plan.
