Laboratory Cleanouts
laboratory with abundant of chemicals that need cleaning out

The department that is responsible for cleaning out the lab is also responsible for cleaning out the chemicals in the lab by following the procedures on our Chemical Waste Disposal page. If a laboratory decides to conduct its own cleanout, it is highly recommended that you contact Regulated Waste in advance for guidance.

Alternatively, if a lab cannot perform their own cleanout, the Regulated Waste Program can provide chemical laboratory cleanout services at a cost of $75/hour. This service covers the technician’s time to enter the chemicals for removal; it does not include the disposal of lab equipment or supplies.  A cost estimate will be provided before the clean-out is conducted.

The Regulated Waste Program cannot guarantee that the laboratory cleanout will be conducted in the timeframe needed; cleanouts are handled in the order in which they are received, performed typically before or after normal business hours, and only when Regulated Waste staff are available.
