Laminar flow hoods are designed to protect the items on work surface from contaminants with airflow out towards the face of the person using the hood (e.g., airflow is opposite that of a biological safety cabinet or chemical fume hood). Therefore, any chemical use will cause the person to be exposed to the chemical.

• Toxic or volatile chemicals may not be used in a laminar flow hood.
• Laminar flow hoods are not biological safety cabinets and must not be used for biohazardous work, only for product protection.
