Changes to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements for Working with Organisms Requiring BSL1 Containment

The lab coat requirement for BSL1 work has been changed, making the use of lab coats mandatory. The current version of the CDC/NIH Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratory (BMBL) BSL1 criteria states that “Protective laboratory coats, gowns, or uniforms are worn to prevent contamination of personal clothing."
