Food Safety

The University is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Health, Safety, and Risk Management (HSRM) is responsible for the University’s environmental health preventative activities for food safety. 

Reporting a Foodborne Illness

Complaints regarding possible foodborne illness incidents should be directed to:

  • HSRM (612) 626-6002, or alternatively,
  • MN Department of Health (MDH) (877) 366-3455

Protocol for a Foodborne Illness Report

HSRM may refer a complainant to MDH. After joint assessment with MDH, HSRM will:

  • Interview employees of the implicated establishment, if appropriate
  • Conduct onsite observation/inspection to assess food-handling practices and the general condition of the facility
  • Identify and implement corrective action plans which may include information gathering and sharing with MDH, if required
  • Follow-up on the resolution of the food safety complaint item(s)
