When working or conducting research outdoors, off-campus, or abroad it is important to plan ahead to ensure that you perform your work safely.
A Field Safety Plan serves as a tool to document your hazard assessment, communication plan, emergency procedures, and training.
- Doing field research or teaching field courses off campus
- Work or courses involving wildlife
- Work performed at field stations or nature reserves
Depending on where you're going, established site procedures may be available. However, in most cases those procedures should be supplemented with a safety plan for the potential risks specific to your research or tasks.
